Dark Arx Recordings, whose catalogue of dub/techno/garage crossovers I've been following quite closely the past few months have a very special record out next week from one of their lead artists Gerry Read. This follow up to his previous 'Patterns EP' is a vinyl only affair with brand new A side 'Last Time' taking a well deserved spotlight, a fresh and emotive slice of house that tinkers with the sounds of 2-step and golden era US house music. Gerry's impeccable production hasn't gone unnoticed either, already getting plays from Ben UFO, Untold, Gilles Peterson, MJ Cole and more, and if that's not enough, its backed with 'Patterns' the title track from the aforementioned EP on the flip side. Stream previews of this great record below, and as a bonus here's the latest Dark Arx Podcast which you can stream or download below.
Been keeping a close eye on Dark Arx Recordings this year, and I suggest you folks do the same, with only 2 releases under their belt this label focuses on new talent around the fringes of dubstep and techno, and previous EPs from Binary Sequence and Dark Arx have been triumphunt in showcasing this. Next up is an EP from Gerry Read a new, and already in demand producer (thanks to interest from a few big labels), certainly one to watch in 2011. The 'Patterns EP' is a solid record with the brilliant title track raising the bar from the outset, 'Dreamer' really mixes things up with a completely different formula, and the EP finishes with 'Climb' an all-out corrosive dubstep attack. The 'Patterns EP' by Gerry Read is out on Dark Arx Recordings on November 22nd.
Fledgling bass imprint Dark Arx Recordings bring good news this week of their second release following the praise of their interesting initial EP from Binary Sequence. Once again exploring the fringes of the dubstep, techno and bass scenes the second release, 'Blood Vein' by label head Dark Arx takes inspiration from Detroit techno and blends his roots with today's shape shifting bass scenes delivering something quite unique, only closely comparable to Scuba or Peverelist. Check out the EP previews below along with a Podcast mix by Dark Arx of older techno and modern bass that continues its evolution. 'Blood Vein' by Dark Arx is available on Dark Arx Recordings from May 3rd.
Been sent some wonderful wintery stuff from a new act, Binary Sequence who's creating some beautiful, arctic electronica which is heavily influenced by London's bass scene, yet radically removed from it. Binary Sequence's first EP will be released on January the 18th on newly founded label Dark Arx Recordings, a new home for those artists that hang around the fringes of the dubstep, techno or bass scenes. Check out their track '66/31' and Promo Mix below and be sure to head over HERE to preview the rest of the EP. Binary Sequence's debut LP is out on Dark Arx Recordings on the 18th Jan and available from Juno.
