Most Excellent
That All Saints revival wasn't that great was it. No way as successful as them Take That lads, but with their original fan-base it was bound to be a success anyway. I suppose its still early days for the girls yet, as they've only had one single out since they hit back with 'Rock Steady' which was remixed by MSTRKRFT of course. I'm starting to see the strategy that may be forming with some artists, like Robbie Williams and his shit album, by getting Soulwax, Switch & Nightmoves to do some work for them. If you can get great producers to remix your music (no matter how bad the original may be) you've instantly got another target audience to sell the music too. This time around Kissy Sell Out's marvelous skills create a different take on their single 'Chick Fit', and as Ive mentioned in a previous post he is on form for this year with some great remixes lined up, and he's definitely grown a bold reputation and quite a recognisable trademark sound to his productions. Love the naming of the mixes too! 'Chick Fit' by All Saints is forthcoming through Parlophone records, and Kissy Sell Out has his debut LP coming out on San City High.

Tiga's label Turbo Recordings have released their latest record with a debut from Proxy. 'The Destroy EP' features a beauty of a remix from Riot In Belgium who I can see having another busy year with their single 'La Musique' out now on Relish and completed remixes for KIM, Headman and Surkin. The remix for Surkin will feature on a 'Radio Fireworks' remix 12" out on Institubes. Awesome. The 'Destroy EP' by Proxy is out now on Turbo and available to buy at Juno & 'La Musique by Riot In Belgium is also out now on Relish and also available at Juno.

Justice have been hyped to pieces over the past month by bloggers, websites, mags and DJs across the globe.. and you may think I'm a bit late in writing about their plans for 2007. Well you're wrong, I could have written about them ages ago, but knowing that every other blog was doing exactly the same, I saved it for another time. You all know the gossip about, 'Phantom', the Goblin sample, and their forthcoming LP blablabla so I'm not gonna go on about it.. Ill simply multiply the hype with some 'pre-mixes' that anxious producer fans have made to fill the Justice void of January 2007. Included are a Justice multi mashup from Thunderous Olympian and a re-edit sampling the original Goblin track from Faex aka Skull Juice's Alex Egan. Oh yeah there's also the 'D.A.N.C.E' teaser, that featured on the Limited Phantom 12" and sounds like another forthcoming smasher from the Duo. 'Phantom' was released on a limited 12" if you were lucky enough to grab one, so look out for more Justice releases on Ed Banger this year.

Diplo's Mad Decent label is putting out the next release for Brazilian nuts Bonde Do Role. Their single 'Gasolina' features a star studded lineup of remixers including Baltimore beats from Scottie B & King Tutt, grimey goodness from Radioclit, and one from the Kudurolicious Buraka Son Sistema. Love all the mixes to be honest, and wasn't quite sure which one to post here, so.. umm. Here's the Scottie B & King Tutt Mix simply because I havent mentioned much about the Baltimore scene on the blog yet, and it deserves a big up. 'Gasolina' from Bonde Do Role is forthcoming on Mad Decent.

New York band The Glass (DJs Glen Brady & Dominique Keegan) have quite an unsung history in the electronic music scene. Here's some top facts for you: Glen is an ex-DMC champ. Both guys are behind the infamous 'The Sound Of Young New York' mix compilation series that have championed artists like !!!, The DFA, Metro Area, The Rapture, MSTRKRFT and many more. Dominique along with Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot, set up Plant Music and the Plant Bar where James Murphy setup their sound system and played his very first DJ sets, and Luke Jenner (Lead Singer of The Rapture) worked behind the bar and his band hosted Monday Nights at the club. That was all new and very interesting to me and I'm sure James, and The Rapture owe a lot of their success to the place quoted as 'The Loudest Bar On Earth'. Anyway back to the present, where since 2003 both Glen and Dominique have been producing music as The Glass. A number of 12" releases and electric live shows played internationally prove the band have come a long way in just 3 years, and are continuing to work hard with a full band lineup and/or as DJs utilising synths and vocals at clubs and dance venues across the globe. Their latest single 'Come Alive' features a variation of remixes from Kasper Bjorke (Of Filur with Tomboy), NY Hip Hop legend turned electro producer Stretch Armstrong and French Disco Rockers Rinocerose. 'Come Alive' by The Glass is forthcoming on Four Music, and the band are now finishing the mixing on their debut album.

Touch That Switch
Never before have I held so much excitement over Robbie Williams. But like the previous vinyl release from his abysmal album 'Rudebox', that featured the invincible work of the Dewaele Brothers, there is yet another white label out with some world class remixes. I initially impulse-bought the record when I saw the Nightmoves Remix on the B Side, but it wasn't clearly marked that Switch had the spot on the A Side too (I thought it was just the original version), so I had yet another delight when I first played the record this Tuesday. This is a great vinyl altogether, with even the 'Darkhorse Dub' as track 3 being quite a good one. The original track of course was produced by Soul Mekanik who did quite a bit of production on his album, and I'm sure many of you remember it was originally featured on their album 'Eighty One' on Rip Records without Robbie ruining a perfectly decent song. But never mind, superheroes Nightmoves & Switch have brought some class back to it with some continuous great work from both artists. The Nightmoves mix is a rave-style stomper with chattering hats and squeaky scratches kind of reminding me of how Dave Taylor worked on Induceve's mighty 'Warehouse Shit' last year.
Mr Taylor's A side is also worth a glorified mention with a little less use of vocals and more focus on the fidget elements that he's championed. Switch is set to storm this year yet again with some incredibly ridiculous remixes. Look out for his remix of Freeform Five's 'No More Conversations' which is getting a 2007 re-release also with an updated re-edit from Mylo, where it's as if them samples were perfect for him to remix, and the outcome is just heart-pounding. Other mixes to listen out for are of Speaker Junk's 'Foxxy', and P Diddy & Christina Aquilera's 'Tell Me' and i know you're 'gonna like it.. gonna like it..' (Shit gag. sorry!). 'Never Touch That Switch' is available on a remix white 12" from Juno.

Some other international fidget stars with big plans for 2007 are Crookers (aka DJs Phra & Bot) who have already had a mention on the blog and deserve another one too i think. The Italians have a new 'Made In Italy EP' out next month on developing Fidget label On The Brink Records which also features a remix by Ex-Switch-Man now turned Speaker Junkie: Trevor Loveys. The 'Made In Italy EP' by Crookers is out through On The Brink Records in Feburary, check the On The Brink MySpace for some great samples.

Another guy who's building a growing pile of records in my room at the moment is Parisian man Surkin who's techy-electro I just love. I was relieved to finally get a copy of his 'Radio Fireworks' on vinyl this week, after missing it first time round, and with Juno, HTFR & Phonica sold out.. Arcade Mode saved the day. Such a great track from last year, and B Side 'Kiss N Fly' is just as good in my opinion and is even still in my chart this month. Anyways I expect more goodies from this guy this year with mixes lined up for of Para One, Goose, Boys Noize, Chromeo & DJ Mehdi still to come. Soon enough though we should see (hopefully, if its made the release) his remix of Klaxons' 'Golden Skans' hit the shelves along with the other awesome mixes by SebastiAn & Erol Alkan. Its a great addition to an unbeatable lineup of remixers, whereas Erol Alkan gives us a 'Ekstra Spektral' piano workout, SebastiAn hits us with a down tempo technical gem, and now Surkin has provided a mostly instrumental, guitar driven piece of electro. Second to look out for is his work on Relish's next release where he has remixed my favourite so far of Yuksek's tracks 'Composer'.
For more Surkin goodness you should have a look on the Institubes Blog where the boy has done a 20 minute minimix for our ears to have a listen at. Klaxons next single 'Golden Skans' with mixes from SebastiAn, Erol Alkan & Surkin (Not 100% sure if they are all gonna be on the releases though) is out at the end of this month through Polydor and is available to pre-order at HMV now, and Yuksek's next release with remixes from Surkin & Vicarious Bliss is forthcoming on Relish Records.

Last to come for me this week was of course the latest Kitsune installment. I'm becoming quite an avid Kitsune Kollecter these days and there seems to be nothing but staring, black and white faces covering my record shelves. This time its Boys Noize's turn for a debut release on France's finest and their single 'Feel Good (TV=OFF)' which comes bundled with a new edit by no stranger to the label Shinichi Osawa who's done yet another good edit adding more complex beats and looping sections to achieve great builds and drops. 'Feel Good (TV=OFF)' is out now on Kitsune and available to buy from Juno.

I Go By Many Names
Hope all readers had a great Christmas and New Years, and thanks loads for the feedback on the Electric Zoo Mixtape. Glad You Enjoyed.

Fellow fans of The Mighty Boosh may know that quote.. 'I go by many names...' by Julian Barrat's character Rudi Van DeSarzio. Ive been loving their new Live DVD over this Christmas and had quite a little surprise when I saw the guys mug printed on a Speaker Punks vinyl. Maybe it was a reference to Jimi Hendrix, and the characters influence.. but maybe (and its a long shot) it was a link to that quote and how it applies to the producer. Joshua Harvey definetly goes by many names, and now he's branched his Speaker Junk label off to another sub-label Speaker Punk. It seems this is an outlet for him and partner Trevor Loveys to put out some of their white label remixes. Great idea I say, as I just can't get enough of their productions. They slipped underneath my radar too, with the second release out way back in July. More info on the releases can be found here, and they were available at Juno & Phonica.

Goin by other names, we expect to see a lot more of Mr Harvey this year, with Voodoo Chilli getting a soon re-release on Dubsided, as Speaker Junk with a forth coming Dubsided release, and in his Count Of Monte Cristal make up with Sinden putting out a release on Dave Taylor's Counterfeet Imprint. Im not sure if this track is definetly on it, but The Count Of Monte Cristal & Sinden EP will be out this year on Counterfeet.

Anyone in London this weekend should definetly go and see this genius in action @ The Lock Tavern, Camden for BLOGGERS DELIGHT on the 14th. Herve himself will be DJing as well as the resident Skull Juice DJs and Casper C (Fluokids) from 3:30-11pm
Really wanted to go to this one.. huge fan of Herve, and would be great to finally meet Casper and the Skull Juice lads. but i can't get the time off work now.. and the train ticket prices have got even MORE! expensive this new year.

Back to some MP3 goodies, and I know Arctic Monkeys are a bit 2006... but this remix has only just found its way onto my computer. Their debut album was a sure music highlight of 2006 for many and recording trio Killahurtz have put on the Monkey's dancing shoes and thrown them on the dancefloor with this hot guitar driven track. Not sure where the hell this is available to buy, if it is at all.. but if I knew I would be advertising it!

Sticking with the indie sound now, and you probably know that Editors had a remix EP out on iTunes a few weeks back. Well it was only the US iTunes actually and this EP hasnt found its way to the UK store yet. Dont know why but edbanging producer SebastiAn did a remix of their single 'Camera'. I found it a little strange sounding at first.. but it really does grow on you. Editors' Remixes EP is out now on the US iTunes store, and hopefully soon here in the UK too.

Finally one of my favourite tracks from 2006 was Switch's remix of 'Bump' by Spank Rock. Well here's another remix by Mad Cap Texans Best Fwends. They used different samples to what Taylor used opting for the lead vocal and gameboy synths and it results in a totally unique remix, and shows even more talent from this crazy band. This track is available with the original and Switch remix on a limited 12" from Big Dada.
