Riton Time
Riton: Essential component of the Gucci Soundsystem, solo DJ, and more importantly here; Music Producer. It only seems right to write about Riton this week, after two of his latest productions have made their way onto my doorstep in the form of hot new records. First up is the long awaited 'Midnight Swim' single from Para One's album 'Ephiphanie', at first I wanted this for Surkin's glorious 'Drowning' mix, but now it has a worthy contender. Riton has further electrocuted this beaut, with strobing synths and bass and kept the classic cutting violin samples in their too. Also released late last week was Simian Mobile Disco's first official single from their forthcoming album 'Attack Sustain Release' (Check out their new official website for a tasty sample of some of the tracks). Anyway 'It's The Beat' has been given the remix treatment from Massey, Luke Vibert and the man of the moment Riton. Not unlike the Para One remix, this is an electric shocker with heavy strobing basslines , vibrant hi-hats and cheeky backing melodies. 'It's The Beat' by Simian Mobile Disco is out now on Wichita and is available to buy at Juno or Phonica, 'Midnight Swim' by Para One is also out now on Institubes and also avilable to buy @ Juno or Phonica.

Roll out the red carpet right away, because in true imperial fashion the Count Of Monte Cristal has arrived. Perhaps not titled so nobly, 'The Ghetto Bitches EP' has finally been released on Counterfeet Records. Its a great 4 track EP from Josh Harvey, that very clearly introduces everybody to the Count and his heavy basslines, ghetto vocal samplings and funky snippets let us know just exactly what he's all about. Also featured on the EP is Sinden's super speedy take on 'Ghetto Bitches' which was previously mentioned Here if you fancy a little listen. Still to come on Counterfeet is yet more music from The Count on another EP accompanied with Sinden to include their amazing set to be club anthem 'Beeper'. The 'Ghetto Bitches EP' by The Count Of Monte Cristal is out now on Counterfeet and available to buy now on Juno or Phonica.

I may be a little late picking up on this one, so Im sure many of you have been listening to it lots already. I have been anyway, so its only right to mention Basement Jaxx's new single 'Make Me Sweat' featuring the ever so funky legend Roxxanne Shante which is out now exclusively on Orange vinyl. Ive been recently getting less fond of the Jaxx after their last album and few singles, but this track has them rocketed back to the top of my list! I don't know what it is about Roxanne Shante either, but every house track she appears on get's me giddy, her rapping is a true definition of ghetto funk. She also featured on Mekon's single 'Yes Yes Y'all' a few months back which jogged my memory of a huge favourite of mine from a few years back which is 'What's Going On' again by Mekon featuring Roxanne Shante pure awesome. 'Make Me Sweat' by Basement Jaxx is out now on Atlantic Jaxx and available from Juno & Phonica.

To carry on in true Electric Zoo fashion here's one of Dave Taylor's latest masterpieces. It really wouldn't be a true post with him absent. So here's his remix of Just Jack's forthcoming track 'Glory Days' which has also been remixed by Ed Banger's boy DJ Mehdi. This remix clearly shows Dubsided Dave's darker side with some haunting keys and really beastly basslines which contribute to yet another juicy Jackin' track from Mr Taylor. Also about now is Mika's new single 'Love Today' remixed by Switch, which is also set for release soon and should be available at all good record shops. Just Jack's new single 'Glory Days' with a remix from Switch is out on the 16th of April and available to pre-order now @ HMV.

24 Jokers
After closing the doors of his record shop last year, DJ Booth with accomplice Chameleonic set up a club night to continue spreading their musical philosophies to Ottawa-city and the rest of Canada. Their events 'Disorganised' blew up last year with headliners like Diplo, MSTRKRFT and The Juan Maclean performing across the country and of course with heavy support from the duo themselves Jokers Of The Scene. JOTS are no strangers to the blogging community at all, in fact they are great pals, and have a load of mixes for numerous blogs, including their amazing latest mix which they did for Discobelle this month. Its an invigorating mash of fidget nonsense, electro and Baltimore bliss, and even a number of exclusives from the boys themselves, including one of Apostle of Hustle's '24 Robbers' which was in fact one of the very first tracks ever blogged on Electric Zoo. So the lovely Jokers have kindly sent me this exclusive for Electric Zoo's readers to have a listen.

Every single thing I hear from Joshua Harvey somehow gets posted on the blog. Maybe its the fact that he is one of the most exciting producers in the UK right now, and everything he touches turns to gold (metaphorically speaking of course). Along with Trevor Loveys he's produced some amazing records as Speaker Junk, and if their previous Dubsided release hasn't proved that to you, you're an idiot! I'm sure Ive previously mentioned all the gossip about his expected releases for this year already, with EPs as The Counte Of Monte Cristal - paired with Sinden, and on his own as Voodoo Chilli with a re-release of 'Look What You've Done To Me' ready to re-drop on Dubsided later this year. Witness the genius of Speaker Junk yet again with two more crazy and unique remixes from the duo right here, and look out for forthcoming releases from Josh Harvey on Dubsided and Counterfeet all coming soon.

The Shadow Dancer brothers continue with hard work, with a growing schedule of DJ gigs whilst always taking the time to produce new great music. After gaining recognition from their commendable work on remixes for Holy Hail, The Longcut and The Whip its about time the boys had their own record out on a big label don't you think. Well keep them fingers crossed because Kid Alex from Boys Noize has loved their track 'Poke' and been playing it at gigs for a while now, and there have been chats about a forthcoming release through Boys Noize Records. I have been a keen follower of their productions and progress since I first heard their stuff on MySpace, Paul is a great guy and has always kept me up to date with their latest music, and I wish the boys all the best with their future releases! Look out for a Shadow Dancer EP forthcoming on Boys Noize Records???

Its been a crazy past few months full of Ed Banger releases, and I was shocked to see yet another one so soon after Busy P's last offering. Things usually take ages to surface on these magnificent labels, but it seems some good planning and production has paid off with a huge barrage of Ed Banger records hitting the shelves. This time DJ Mehdi has a follow up record to his LP 'Lucky Boy' with a 'Lucky Girl EP' featuring exclusive remixes from the legend that is Thomas Bangalter, Outlines and Surkin. Bangalter really shines with his historic french filtered house skills on his remix of 'Signatune', and Surkin really hits the target with his raving take on title track 'Lucky Boy'. Mehdi's LP is also set for a re-release in Europe including some of the mentioned remixes and a further exclusive remix of 'I Am Somebody' by Switch which shows a friendlier funkier side to Dave Taylor. The 'Lucky Girl EP' is out now on Ed Banger and available to buy at Juno, and the latest Ed Banger compilation featuring all of the crew is also now in the shops and also available @ Juno on CD and LP formats.

Armand Van Helden caused a stir with limited promos of his single 'Touch Your Toes' featuring hip hop big cat Fat Joe. So what's the next step? Remixes of course, and some good ones too. Ex-Radio Slave Serge Santiago has given it a go with champion results with this extended, scary, toe touching number. Along with Santiago in the remix ranks are the Audio Bullys who have seriously gone back to their roots with this mix, with the dark urban/garage sound that was praised on their awesome first album 'Ego War' yet disappointingly missing on their second album. Also with remix action from Lost Daze and Stretch Armstrong, 'Touch Your Toes' is forthcoming on Southern Fried Records.

In line with the release of his debut album 'Serios' Tomas Barford aka Tomboy has released the first single from the LP. 'Flamingo' comes packaged with a further remix from Tomboy himself and another more electric and stomping version from KIM of The Presets. Oh yeah, and remember I posted South Central's remix of 'War Out There' by Radar last week... Well I really underestimated Tomboy's version of the track, not only has he done both vocal and dub versions, they are awesome too with a cheeky Hot Chip/Booji Boy style tweaked vocal and squeaky bleeps paired with a lumbering bass line. Tomboy's single 'Flamingo' and LP 'Serios' are both out now on Gomma and available from Juno, and Radar's 'War Out There' with mixes from Tomboy and South Central is also available to buy @ Juno.

Here's one of them tracks that I randomly came across and now unfortunately can't really find much information about.. Discogs doesn't really seem to know much but the Italian version of Juno does... Out this month on Vintage Italy I'm assuming this release will surface on other shores and make its way into our record shops. This stuff is electro house at its best, the good stuff that's great until it gets overplayed and annoying. This sounds like the next 'Ghet's Noch' by Roman Flugel, which also went down that path and got annoying pretty quickly when it was played by everyone. 'Dry' by Overnoise is out now and Vintage Italy.

Clearly the best bootleg Ive heard in a long time, Babooshka* resident Micky Slim's rendition of 'Jump Around' by House Of Pain opened my eyes and ears to this producer and Ive been keeping my peepers open for his other work ever since. A few electro house numbers which didn't really appeal to me were found, but then this little gem was unearthed. A jaunty take on Basmement Jaxx's 'Take Me Back To Your House' which could put this guy in with the fidget house mafia.

An old ar2k friend by the name of Mr Brown has been sending me some of his latest productions and they truly deserve a post. Along with his own productions he has been doing some remixes including a very volatile mix of Italian electro punks Brilliants. Very heavy and scary stuff that's honestly very hard to explain... you'll just have to have a listen, shit yourself, then realise just how crazy this is.

As if this post wasn't long enough.. here's an extra long mix set too. The Knocks Family are a Swedish, DJ/Remix/Producing duo who sent me this double volume edition mixset 'Twice Ass Nice' for you to spend an afternoon listening to. More remixes and productions are promised soon, so look out.

OK Now Open Them
Like a package long lost in the post, the latest Dubsided vinyl has finally arrived! Debuting their Dubsided release is Speaker Junk aka no strangers to the label Joshua Harvey & Trevor Loveys with their single 'Foxxy'. You may have heard the original before as it has already been released on Harvey's cheeky white label outlet Speaker Punk, and even if you haven't, its pretty easy to guess what this track is all about: A remix of the legend Jimi Hendrix's sexed up 60s anthem 'Foxy Lady'. Its the A2 track that really shines here though with an awesome remix from Dubsided head honcho Switch, who takes the original adds even more sex, punching guitar riffs and one of them trademark wobbly bass lines we have all learned to love. The B sides also deserve a glorified mention more specifically 'Close Your Eyes' a jacked up, scratchy piece of electro-rave pie followed by the B2 'Bounce' a nice funky ghetto fidget number. 'Foxxy' by Speaker Junk is out now on Dubsided, a superb EP defonetly worth buying and available @ Juno, HTFR or Pure Groove, take your pick.

I really can't wait till Mark Ronson's new album 'Version' comes out, so far I've heard about 4 tracks from it and I love the concept of the project and hope its a hit. The latest single taken from the forthcoming album is no different, where the New Yorker with vocal help from Aussie RnB singer/songwriter Daniel Merriweather has come up with a very Gnarles Barkley-Esq version of The Smiths' 'Stop Me If You think You've Heard This One Before'. The original has been hammered on the radio now, and the remixes are starting to surface with this splendid easy going production from Chicken Lips.

Ive noticed Kavinsky's latest EP stirring up quite a bit of hype in blogland this weekend too, and its well deserved too. The is a very innovative EP, very much influenced by 80s TV music and sounds like taking a spin in KITT with Michael Knight. I just love the use of them cheeky synths and US news reports and if this doesn't sound enough, also put onto this lush limited edition Red vinyl is ed banger SebastiAn's latest remix of the track 'Testarossa' from his previous 'Teddy Boy EP'. The '1986 EP' by Kavinsky is out now on Record Makers and is available to buy now from Juno.

Okay, if you haven't yet had the pleasure of listening to this track.. prepare to have your socks clearly knocked off. Belgian rave-rockers Goose are set for more big things this year, and if remixes are included in their work schedule then I'm all ears, as their remix of the Scissor Sisters latest single 'She's My Man' is an absolute stomper and one of the best dance floor destroyers Ive heard so far in 2007. Listen and listen loud! This remix is available on the CD single now from Juno.

Remixes of New Young Pony Club's new single 'The Bomb' by the likes of The Teenagers and Phones have been on a number of blogs now, but to be honest I much prefer the original. A very cool, funky yet punky anthem and with an impressively talented and interesting band like NYPC there's not always a need for a remix! Remember that! 'The Bomb' by New Young Pony Club is released on March 19th on CD, 7inch and 12inch with remixes from The Teenagers, Phones & Kaos. Pre-order from HMV now.

South Central are continuing to work hard, not only with their own forthcoming productions but with new remixes too. First up, a huge favourite of mine from last year, The Sunshine Underground's single 'Put You In Your Place' which was constantly coming out of my speakers. They've given it a new life, and now once again I love this single with added electrically degrading vocals, heavy punchy beats and a funk-fueled bass line. Another recent mix they have done is of Radar's latest single 'War Out There'. There's a lot more action in this one, with similar screechy effects and layered beats, but less vocal aspects and more of a plan for a full on rave. 'War Out There' is out now with remixes from South Central and Tomboy and available from Juno.

Lastly I wanna mention, and make a kind of tribute to The Killers who I saw on their UK tour last week and were absolutely amazing. Its sad but I rarely get out to see live acts perform, and I wish I had the time and local venues to be able to. So here's some killer Killer's remixes, and one from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club too, who supported The Killers and also put on a great set.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - 'Stop (Coburn Remix)' //Virgin

P.S. There's still a few days left to enter the EEE competition and win some exclusive prizes, check HERE if you're interested.

2Many Personalities
Surprise, surprise, I'm blogging about Dave Taylor yet again, as the outlook for forthcoming records on his labels gets bigger and bigger, and some of his new remixes come to surface. Along with Sinden, he's co-produced a bass banging remix of 'Through A Keyhole' by Chicago popsters Walter Meego, which pounds the breath out of the track's haunting vocals. It obvious that Dave & Graeme get on really well and are quite a team when it comes to producing monstrous mayhem music, and they have further proved this recently with another remix of the forthcoming Basement Jaxx single 'Hey U' (Featuring Robyn.. see below). Although this time he's under his Switch guise, yet again the dynamic duo give us something very special. Still a very dark and dirty affair, with repetitive screams and a very Kuduro-Esq pulsing beat. But if these goodies don't satisfy you're hunger, with new music comes the sight of even newer stuff on the horizon, with Switch remixing 'Making Me Money' by Jacknife Lee (Listen now on @ his MySpace), and some amazing productions from Sinden along side the amazing Counte Of Monte Cristal forthcoming on an EP on Counterfeet records. Definitely worth checking out Sinden's Myspace to listen to track 'Beeper' from this EP, would definitely be number one in my chart if I could get a copy! Buy Switch, Solid Groove and Sinden music @ Juno.

Again with more of this fidget nonsense and Italians of the moment, Crookers have a new remix of Steed Lord which they are intangibly handing out on their MySpace for free, a bargain for some top notch dirty crooked house. We are still awaiting their debut EP for On The Brink to be dropped, as well as a hell of a lot more stuff that they showed off in their 2007 production sampler mix. Talking of On The Brink, another of their signings The Bulgarian, has remixed Bape lovin' Teriyaki Boys which you can find over at the splendid Slutty Fringe Blog.

I think I'm a bit late in catching onto this neon pop queen, but I was very impressed reading her Wiki to see that she left Jive Records & BMG to start her own record label Konichiwa Bitches. Well what a great move that was, allowing the Swedish songstress Robyn to have the label focused on her own music, and it sure has paid off with her last single getting a lot of recognition leading to a new UK release of her self titled album 'Robyn'. In this spotlight she's also now got the opportunity for some class act producers to get their mits on her music for remixing. This time round Trentemoller has made a very impressive urban/tech sounding mix, unlike most of his productions Ive known. The single 'Konichiwa Bitches' is set for release on March the 26th on V2 with mixes from Trentemoller, Oscar The Punk & Menta and available to buy in all good record shops.

Joining the Boys on Boys Noize Records for their debut release is yet another french act to keep an eye on. There's been a lot of hype about Les Petits Pilous, and their debut 'Hello, We Are Here EP'. I don't think they could have found a better home with Boys Noize as they sound like family on this debut, with heavy techno beats and ever loving electronic flavours. The 'Hello, We Are Here EP' by Les Petits Pilous, is out now and available to buy at Phonica.

Lastly here's something to rock out to. A cheeky bootleg mix of The Subways by Tube & Berger. Obviously don't have any information about this one but I'm sure you indie-kids already know their anthem 'Rock & Roll Queen', so just expect the same thing but with more driving bass N beats. Buy this vinyl now from Juno.
